Santa, Baby!

                                                   SANTA, BABY!

Noel Royce a onetime successful songwriter, becomes a sidewalk Santa

in the hope of breaking his writer's block. With the help of a

wisecracking Christmas partridge named Melody, his wife Alicia  and a

hep cat named Emerald , Noel discovers the very soul of Christmas. By

the story's end, an entire community is transformed and a struggling

animal shelter gets a second chance.  There is a sub-plot about kindness

to animals that has almost nothing to do with the main story but it is a

heart-warming story of love and family.

Arthur Rankin, Jr., who had produced classics like Rudolph The Red

Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, The Little Drummer Boy and Santa

Claus is Comin' To Town - the longest running, highest rated Christmas

specials in history - tried for years to get Santa, Baby! produced, but

faced resistance because of its departure from "traditional" Christmas

fare, namely its urban setting and jazz influenced soundtrack.

Ultimately, the Coca Cola Company stepped in and sponsored it in 2001,

and it would be the last Christmas special Arthur Rankin would produce.

Rankin was working on a stage version of this animated special to

premiere in Bermuda. Failing health forced him to set the project aside

before his passing in 2014. For me, I would have loved to see a stage

version of this movie cause it was such a wonderful story and I think

it would have done very well on or off Broadway. So if you get a chance

rent or buy it and enjoy it for yourself.
